Dear colleagues,

Hereby I make a call for applications for a postdoctoral position that is available at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Brussels, Belgium).
The candidate is expected to start in October 2025. The contract is for one year, but can be renewed twice (so for a maximum period of 3 years). To be eligible, candidates should have obtained a PhD before the start of the contract, and should satisfy the “mobility rule” which means that they did not work, nor resided in Belgium during at least 12 out of 36 months before the start of the contract. The same rule should be satisfied at the start of the 2nd and 3rd year of the contract, in case of an extension. The gross salary of the grant is 3116 eur per month. The grant also comes with a bench fee (about 2500 eur per year) for travelling and/or buying a computer.

The vacancy is opened in the framework of the research project “Reconstruction of modules and algebraic objects from closed and monoidal structures on their representation categories”, funded by the fnrs (the agency for scientific research of the French speaking community in Belgium) and with Joost Vercruysse as PI. The title already hints on the main topics of the project: Hopf algebras, and generalisations of these such as Hopf algebroids and Hopf monads, closed and monoidal categories of (partial) representations over these. Apart from developing their own research, the selected candidate is expected to devote some of their time on the themes of the project and collaborate with other members of the group.

On purpose, the procedure for applying is kept as simple as possible, it suffices to send the following documents by email to Joost.Vercruysse@ulb.be before April 20, 2025:
-A short motivation letter (max 1 page)
-A short CV, containing previous grants and positions and a complete publication list
-The e-mail addresses of at least 3 possible researchers holding a permanent position and who can write a reference letter. At least one of these should be a (former) supervisor, at least one should not be a (former) supervisor.
The results will be communicated by the end of May 2025.

Dear all,

I am sorry for the spam, but it seems I made a mistake in the previous announcement, the amount of 3116 eur per month is the net salary, not the gross salary (otherwise, with Belgian taxes it would have been hardly enough to survive).
