I archive my sent mails with a Gcc to the Sent folder on my imap
account. But when the connection to the server is closed and I send a
mail, the message gets sent fine but is not stored on the imap server:

> Sending email done
> Opening nnimap server on philipp@example.org...
> Server nnimap+philipp@example.org previously determined to be down; not retrying
> Opening nnimap server on philipp@example.org...failed:
> gnus-inews-do-gcc: Can't open server nnimap:philipp@example.org

I find myself with the message buffer as I just sent it and can, most of
the time, simply go to the server buffer and reopen the connection (M-o
or O).

But then, how do I get gnus to save the mail to the gcc (Sent) folder?

After reopening the server, put the Gcc header back. A single undo should do it. Then C-c C-c. You should be prompted with something like "message already sent, resend?" respond 'n'. Then you should be prompted to "Gcc anyway?" to which you respond 'y'.

Works for me.
