Every blue pixel of the gnu becomes white regardless of what the colour of the pixel behind it. Imagine printing all the faces on a piece of paper and then taking an Xacto knife and cutting out the shape of the gnu out of that sheet of paper. So where the gnu was, you can "see through". In the T-shirt's case, the fabric of the T-shirt will show through where the gnu is.
