Hallo.
problem is as in the subject.
The only variable I set in my .emacs is:
(setq gnus-select-method '(nntp "news.task.gda.pl"))

The problem does not seem to be related to news server, because visiting the same news server with slrn I can see many groups.

What might be the problem?

greetings.

I forgot to mention that pressing `L' does not make all groups to be shown

Gnus only shows the groups you are subscribed to and which include some
unread messages by default. L adds those which you are subscribed to and
which contain no new messages.

You can find the answer to your question in the FAQ which should help
you with many other common problems, too. See http://my.gnus.org/faq

,----
| 3.4.
| Gnus seems to start up OK, but I can't find out how to subscribe to a group.
|
| If you know the name of the group say U name.of.group RET in group
| buffer (use the tab-completion Luke). Otherwise hit ^ in group buffer,
| this brings you to the server buffer. Now place point (the cursor) over
| the server which carries the group you want, hit RET, move point to the
| group you want to subscribe to and say u to subscribe to it.

Did you ever realize how much text fits in eighty columns? If you now consider
that a signature usually consists of up to four lines, this gives you enough
space to spread a tremendous amount of information with your messages. So seize
this opportunity and don't waste your signature with bullshit nobody will read.
