The PGP signature hiding stuff is so good I can't tell that anything's
there. It would be nice to have a flag on the status line indicating
when a message has been signed (and the signature is hidden). This
would be orthogonal to the button provided when hiding the .signature.

What would this flag say? "PGP"? And do we want to clutter up the
mode line with more... stuff?

Why not embed some variety of button into the body of the message, much
like is done with citation and sig hiding?

That's what I originally suggested. Leave the "------ BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE
------" thing and make it a button that toggles the signature from being
visible. Just like the "-- " button before the .signature.

Why would you ever want the PGP signature visible?
What I could imagine being useful would be insering a
PGP: {none,unchecked,checked,failed}
pseudo-header. The header should be submitted to the usual
header highlighting and hiding rules. Good defaults might be:
none: hidden
unchecked: blue fg
checked: green fg
failed: yellow on red
unchecked could be a button that called the appropriate magic
(mailcrypt?) to verify the article, and update the header as
required.

"DS" for "digital signature". PGP isn't the only way to sign messages,
even if it is the most commonly used. And "none" is denoted by the lack
of the header -- no need to waste space for something that, for a lot of
messages, is going to be nil anyway.
And there really should be some means of text-only feedback on this. If
this is important enough to actually integrate (I think so) then it
should be easilly visible on monochromatic displays.

"DS" would be far too cryptic (no pun intended) for most people. I would
suggest being more verbose: Use "Digital-Signature:" instead of "DS:".

Good question, but I'd kinda prefer my news reader not make it impossible
to see *any* part of a message I am reading... even the PGP signature.
Though I don't feel *real* strongly about it (after all, it's just a PGP
signature). I'm just thinking of the precedent of actually with-holding
part of a message from the reader.

Doesn't pressing `t' show it all?

Nope. Only the headers. This is as it should be, IMHO.
The unprocessed article is available in the `` *Original Article*''
buffer (with a leading space). I'm not sure whether there already
exists a command to automatically display this buffer.

Hmm, nope. I just tried it.... Maybe it should, but `t' shows a lot of
other stuff that I'm even less likely to want to see....

`C-u g' (re-)fetches the current article without applying any of the
"display" hooks.

Yes, that would be nice. (Or Digital-Signature, as was suggested.)
But isn't this something that Mailcrypt should do and not Gnus? Or
should Gnus do it? Uhmn...

For the same kind of reasons that one would occasionally want to see a
full set of headers (not often in this case though).

Which piece of code is doing the hiding?
A button like this
>> PGP: {none,unchecked,checked,failed}
(or tagged as Digital-Signature) would be sufficient.

Gnus does the hiding, but Mailcrypt does the verifying. If Mailcrypt
was included in the Emacs distribution, I'd add some functions to call
Mailcrypt, hide the signature, and add the suggested header/buttons to
the article. `gnus-article-treat-pgp', or something.
Are there any plans to include Mailcrypt in the Emacs distribution? I
mean, it's a *very* useful and friendly package...

Thanks.
I would be happy to see Mailcrypt included with Emacs, but I would
like to squash a few bugs and clean up some things first.
Unfortunately, Mailcrypt development is on hold until I finish my
Master's thesis, which I am hoping will happen in the next month or
two.
Expect a new version of Mailcrypt in March and a submission to the FSF
folks soon thereafter. Sorry I can't promise anything sooner, but I'm
no Lars :-).
