gnus-thread-sort-by-author is the only sorting function that is
meaningless, who sort by author on a threaded reader? if you want to
sort by author you usually disable threading, and then sort.  Sort by
date, number and subject, is applying the sort on threads roots, sort
by score is realy sort by total score.
