Hi -

My first post with Gnus 5.3 failed, giving this error:

nnspool: /usr/bin/inews: bad option -S; usage too large, see inews(1)

I set debug-on-error, but it would not produce a backtrace. Here's the
head of my inews man page, if it's at all helpful:

===
INJNEWS(1)      UNIX System V (20 September 1991)      INJNEWS(1)

NAME
     injnews, inews - `user-friendly' news-posting front-ends for
     relaynews

SYNOPSIS
     injnews [ -N ] [ -A ] [ -V ] [ -x excluded-site ]
    inews [ -h ] [ -N ] [ -A ] [ -V ] [ -x excluded-site ] [ -W ]
       [ -M ] [ -a Approved:-contents ] [ -c Control:-contents ]
       [ -d Distribution:-contents ] [ -e Expires:-contents ] [
       -f From:-contents ] [ -n Newsgroups:-contents ] [ -o
       Organization:-contents ] [ -r Reply-To:-contents ] [ -t
       Subject:-contents ] [ -C newsgroup ] [ -F References:-
       contents ] [ file ...  ]
    inews -p [ file ... ]
===

The system runs 5.1 as the standard; no sign of this, of course.

GNU Emacs 19.30.3 (mips-sgi-irix5, X toolkit)
Gnus v5.3; nntp 4.0; nnspool 2.0; nnfolder 1.0

I'm trying to dash this off before going to work, so excuse me if
stupidities lurk herein.

Thanks,

I'm not familiar with injnews, whatever it may be, but the -S option
was added to nnspool-inews-switches to supress the signature copy
added by inews.

For a quick, and possibly complete, workaround, set that variable to
whatever you feel is good with injnews.

Very user-friendly to alias well known programs to executables that
don't accept the same options. :)

It's a cnews-ism.  Here is what I have in my ~/.gnus...

  (setq nnspool-inews-program "/usr/bin/injnews")
  (setq nnspool-inews-switches nil)
