i am using xemacs-20.2b5 and gnus 5.4.52 and am running into the
problem that when i try to respond to articles or forward an article
gnus just hangs in the fontification process....
is there a way to turn off fontification when sending mail or replying
to articles with in gnus...
is anyone else experiencing this problem...

(remove-hook 'message-mode-hook 'message-xmas-maybe-fontify)
[I don't know offhand where this hook is being added]
Or custom-ize it away.

No. I've had an (add-hook 'message-mode-hook 'turn-on-font-lock) in
my .gnus for a *long* time and haven't seen anything like what you
describe.

did not have that hook set but i removed all of the hooks for
fontification from my .xemacs and all seems fine since i use customize
to set my fonts and faces....

well when i removed all those add-hooks everything cleared up...
