The original NewsWatcher has maybe one release per year, mostly to keep it working gracefully with Mac OS updates or when a serious bug is found. MT-NewsWatcher is actually more popular than the original due to it's multi-threaded user interface. There's also Yet Another NewsWatcher (a.k.a. YA-NewsWatcher) and Value-Added NewsWatcher (a.k.a. VA-NewsWatcher) and Word Services-NewsWatcher (a.k.a. WS-NewsWatcher). All of which adds various features. Development has pretty much halted on YA- and VA-, but YA- is still very popular. It used to be the most popular. It was number 13 on the newsreader posting chart (November 1998 statistics) compiled at . MT-NewsWatcher was number 11.
