Yes, I think the later versions of thunderbird also does some aggressive indexing of email in order to do advanced and effective searching. Some people seem to like this. You can of course keep the old folder structure, but you would just define them as virtual folders instead. Your email-client doesn't necessarily need to be aware of this as long as the search/retrieval is done effectively. > The presorting I do is split mail for mailing lists. Reminds me of another problem with separate folders. I tend to archive my replies in the same folder as the original message to keep the thread intact. My regular outgoing email is archived in the "Sent" Folder. Whenever I want to search for my own messages, I often find it hard to decide which folders to search in. - Vegard V -
