Subject: v5.8.8 In-Reply-To/citation gripe
Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2001 11:20:22 -0700 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <20010116112022.B26798@mastaler.com> (raw)
After upgrading to the recently released v5.8.8 from 5.8.7, I noticed
that the format of the "In-Reply-To" header has changed to include
only the referencing message-id.
Before:
In-Reply-To: "Curtis V. Canada"'s message of "Thu, 30 Nov 2000 07:33:41 -0700"
After:
In-Reply-To: <4.1.20010116094901.009c8ab0@cic-mail>
This in itself is fine, except that combined with the limited
information in Gnus' citation line, now there is no easy way to tell
when the message that is being replied to was composed. Is it a few
days old, a few months, years? For example:
"Stephen W. Hodson" <swh@lanl.gov> writes:
In-Reply-To: <4.1.20010116094901.009c8ab0@cic-mail>
I suggest a couple of solutions:
- For "In-Reply-To", combine the message-id with the date of the
message being replied to like T-gnus does:
i.e,
In-Reply-To: <m38zu292fu.fsf@nozomi.rhein-neckar.de>
(Mike Fabian's message of "Sat, 12 Aug 2000 12:52:21 +0200")
- Or, leave In-Reply-To as it is and modify the default citation line
in `message-insert-citation-line' to include the date info:
i.e,
