I searched through the code and found pop3-movemail, which is supposed to do the apop thing, provided that the authentication scheme is properly set. But nothing calls pop3-movemail, and it's not quite the right format for nnmail-movemail-program (which can take a function with two arguments -- pop3-movemail takes only one) and I can't figure out the setq command to set a variable equal to a function anyway. I'm not a moron. I'm in the way beginning of learning Emacs Lisp, though, and delving into alpha code for something as large and imposing as Red Gnus is a bit exciting.
