What's the difference?

I also tried with the following, but it didn't solve the problems with
marks.

(setq gnus-select-method
	  '(nnimap "main"
			   (nnimap-address "mail.example.com")
			   (nnimap-stream ssl)))

So, any thoughts on my initial questions?
