Hello all
i use emacs+gnus for mail and news for a 8 years. Recently i had switched to the
IMAP for mail and use gnus mostly for a mailing lists. But it too strange to
see counts of unread mail in gnus, that differs from the number that i see in
thunderbird and other clients.
Why gnus don't use count of unread mail that are reported by IMAP server?

Nobody has modified Gnus to do so. The "unread mail" count in Gnus is
(and has been for a long time) an estimate based on some internal
computations in Gnus. There is currently no backend interface to ask
nnimap to provide to correct value. Perhaps it should be added,
patches welcome...
