Simon Josefsson added nnimap-split-download-body to Gnus, to download
the whole message when splitting. You should set it to t if you want
to use spam-use-bogofilter, spam-use-ifile, or spam-use-stat on
message bodies. Otherwise you'll be classifying just the message
headers - which is fine, and that's why I don't enable it by default
when you set one of those three incoming checks. It will slow
incoming mail checks down.

The manual was updated with this information.
