I use that function thus: (gnus-gnus-to-quick-newsrc-format t "gnus registry startup file" 'gnus-regi= stry-alist) so I don't have to write my own, but it breaks often with such spam subjects, and then Gnus won't start. So I want to transform the text before I hand it over to that function. Ted
