Sometimes when trying to view HTML emails I get this error message:

Signaling: (void-function coding-system-p)

Any idea what the reason might be? I didn't find anything concerning this in this list.

Check what version of w3 you're using. The latest was just announced
on comp.emacs.xemacs, and is at
ftp://ftp.xemacs.org/pub/xemacs/emacs-w3/w3.tar.gz

You are using non-MULE XEmacs. Right? What is the version of w3?

This probably the MULE compatibility problem for w3. I think it has
been solved in w3 4.0pre.46.
