* Can't move article! (in nnml folders)

Platform: rgnus 0.80, tm 7.100.3, emacs 19.34

Occasionally I get the message "Can't move article!", when I attempt
to move an article from one nnml group to another, using
	B m
in the summary buffer. Other articles can be moved without problem
(on a set of process marked articles, some are moved, others are left
untouched).

What I do then, is to do a
	B c
and then delete (or whatever terminology larsi has for it) the
article, and let it expire.

But I'm kind of curious, as to what causes this, and how/if it can be
fixed. Or am I the only one seeing this behaviour (I've been seeing
it for as long as I've had nnml folders, which may be all the way back
to the vanilla Gnus of 19.34 (version number escapes me, at the
moment)).

No, I've seen it too. It's only recently that I started trying to move
articles at all and I just figured it had something to do with something
else that I didn't understand very well but haven't had time to
investigate.

OK! I won't report this as a bug, until someone tells me that this
isn't expected behaviour, when I've set resource so, or so...

Lars?

I disagree; I think it is a bug. I use `B m' all the time in my nnml
groups, and I never had this problem.

On the other hand, I only use it on articles that are not cross-posted.
Maybe this is your problem.

I'm pretty sure it's a bug, too. I need to get a backtrace and send it to
Lars, but it hasn't happened for a while.

CR> Maybe this is your problem.

No, all of the errors have been with articles posted to single mail
groups. (I don't really have crossposted mail since I use Procmail
splitting.)

Whais is the value of nnmail-keep-last-article? If it is t and the
article is last in the group, you can't move it.

Doh! Yep, that's it, even though since I have Procmail spooling to spool
files and not to the folders themselves, n-k-l-a isn't needed.

Hm... so do I. Delivery to mbox spool files, and fetched from there
and put into nnml groups.

Hm... I still have some procmail delivered MH folders (for reasons I
won't go into here).

I wonder if I can turn this off group-local, by setting it to nil in
the group parameters of the nnml groups in question. Or maybe set it
to nil globally, and set it to t in the nnmh groups in question...?

I'll try the first alternative straight away!

Thanx for the tip, Yair!

And the first alternative worked just fine. Just put a little line
into Group Paramaters, of the nnml group in question:
 (nnmail-keep-last-article nil)

I've also put
 (nnmail-keep-last-article t)
in the nnmh folders, but I haven't tested by turning off the global
setting of "t".

Now: is there a FAQ maintainer in the audience? (ie. who took over
the GNUS FAQ from Stephen L. Baur? :-) )

That would be me.

See question 4.10 in the FAQ, whose new home, by the way, is at

Great! Maybe you should add that nnmail-keep-last-article can be set
specifically for single groups, in the Group Parameters of that group?
(ie. if the global setting is t, you can set it to nil for one
particular group, by putting
	(nnmail-keep-last-article nil)
in group parameters
	G p
in the *Group* buffer. (It may work the other way around as well, but
I haven't actually _verified_ that setting it to t in Group
Parameters, will make it leave the last article, when expiring))

True.

I have added your suggestion to the FAQ.

That'd be because it has become common practice to use everything but
the standard format for URLs when specifying a URL.
