Currently, yes, but Lars said that, in the future, the mail-source-directory
may be used for storing files other than Incoming* files.

A temp directory, to me, is a place to store things purely while
diddling them. This isn't what `mail-source-directory' is -- it's a
place where mail-source puts things after it's done diddling with
them. Which is something else, I think.

But the Incoming* files are files that are pre-frobnicated. They are
guaranteed not to be subjected to more frobnification once they land
there...

Please note that nnmail-delete-incoming is nil in pgnus :-)

So, shall we rename it? To rename or not to rename!
All these Incoming* files showing up in my ~/Mail directory are a
nuisance. But I don't want to point mail-source-directory at my
~/tmp for fear of missing announcements of future uses of
mail-source-directory.

Just delete them periodically. How big a deal is it to
'rm ~/Mail/Incoming*' once every week or two?
As a user of alpha software, one should not be daunted by such
small things. :-)

If that's the case, may I suggest you add a mail-source-tmp-directory
variable explicitly for specifying the storage location of the Incoming*
files and any other scratch files which may be needed in the future?
Thanks,

Well, that's the only things that are stored there now, but that may
change in the future.

Hmm. The documentation for that variable says:
Directory where files (if any) will be stored.
It doesn't say anything about these files being only scratch files
(unlike nnmail-tmp-directory, which is a pretty unambiguous name).
And because the default value for mail-source-directory is ~/Mail,
which is not a tmp-ish directory, pointing mail-source-directory at
my ~/tmp directory seems like asking for trouble.

Set `mail-source-directory' instead.
Kind Regards

Previously, we could set `nnmail-tmp-directory' to cause gnus to
drop its `Incoming*' files into a specific directory.
Now, with the new mail-source stuff, gnus seems to be hardcoded to
drop them into `mail-source-directory' (~/Mail).
Am I missing something? Is there a way to get gnus to put these
Incoming files into, say, my ~/tmp directory?

hi,
somewhere between pgnus-0.71 and pgnus-0.73, Incoming-files stopped
landing in nnmail-tmp-directory.
