Note that I suggested to tick the articles you want to see.  So the
tick mark would be the opposite of what you're looking for.

Dormant-izing the ones you want to see, that is.

I think you mean XOR here?

Note that the .marks file is part of the backend.  So the marks would
be stored in .marks and therefore in the backend, so the answer would
be "both".

(Not all backends use .marks files.)
