I'm using Gnus from a recent CVS.  My Emacs hung and I had to "kill" it.  Now when I start it and invoke
M-x gnus it talks to my IMAP server then throws an error.  This also 
happens if I do M-x gnus-no-server, as below:

Seconds ago I built from the latest CVS and encounter the same thing,
so it appears it's something in my config that's trashed rather than
Gnus code.

I'm rather stuck at this point since I can't get past it to read my
mail.  Any suggestions on how to recover?
