  I use GNUS through socks like this all the time - that's the main reason
I wrote socks.el to begin with. :)

  Note that socks.el requires a SOCKS v5 gateway, since v4 only supports
passing IP addresses, not hostnames, and I didn't want to bother spawning
nslookup & munging the output.  It would be doable though, if anyone feels
its a necessity.  Would only take a few hours of twiddling.

  It also currently only supports 'null' and 'username/password'
authentication methods.  I'm probably going to implement chap and cram
sometime this month when I'm back in seattle.
