OK ... what is happening here? I just received a
vvvveeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyy long MIME message from a
friend. However, all that displays in the article buffer is the first
part (a three-line text note.) The modeline says the message has four
parts, but there are no buttons, and none of the various commands or
keystrokes or menu items I can find seem to make any difference.

Try `K b'. If that doesn't produce any buttons, `C-u g' should
present you with the raw message which can help you figure out (or
not) what went wrong.

You might want to forward the message to Lars for further analysis.

That worked. Is that not on by default? I'm sorry, I find MIME even
more confusing than Lars does ...

I don't know what was wrong with the message, so I can't tell. The
idea is that the stuff Gnus can show inline gets shown inline,
unbuttonized. The rest gets its own buttons. The `K b' binding is
useful to get the buttons where you normally wouldn't have them,
e.g. to save a text/plain attachment which some bloke sent with the
"inline" disposition, where he really meant to say "attachment"

Why your message had nothing displayed in it before you pressed `K b',
I don't know. That is why I proposed forwarding it to Lars who might
be able to debug the problem.

Try ``C-u K b''. The prefix argument forces all multipart/* structure
to be treates as plain multipart/mixed, so you see all the various
nested parts flattened out.

Also, ``C-d'' will show you the actual weird structure of the message.
