Well, it does do that, which is the really weird part:
(defun gnus-button-url (address)
"Browse ADDRESS."

(if (listp browse-url-browser-function)
(browse-url address)
(funcall browse-url-browser-function address)))
It does the 'right' thing if it is a list, but not if it is just a
function. Deeply weird.
