M-x message-prettification-minor-mode It could add some keybinding to do the fun things like bold, italic, etc. You could even make it smart enough that if the user has used _only_ things that can be represented as *bold* or /italic/, it would send them out like that, otherwise it could drop it into HTML or richtext. -Bill P.
