Hello,
My Gnus' Group, Summary, etc. buffers do not honor my
mode-line-buffer-id setting. I have
#+begin_src elisp
'(mode-line ((t (:background "PaleGreen" :foreground "black"))))
'(mode-line-buffer-id ((t (:weight normal :background "white" :foreground "blue"))))
#+end_src
This seems to works for everything excepts gnus, where the buffer names
just assume the general mode-line fore and background colors of black
and PaleGreen respectively. I am guessing that I haven't used the
correct gnus' buffer-id name. Suggestions as to how to proceed would be
most appreciated.
Best wishes,
Colin Baxter.

I can confirm this (although I had not noticed it earlier as my
buffer-id face is similar to default mode line face).

Do you think it's a bug?
Colin.

Deep philosophical question that only Lars can answer. ;-)
IMO, it does seem wrong if all other modes behave consistently but gnus
does not.

I posted it to the great wise ones on emacs-devel, with a copy to you.
Best wishes,
Colin.
