I meant that for Lars, meaning that there's one central place where topic names are assumed to be unique. Sorry if I confused you, implying you could edit it yourself. I have played with gnus-topic-line-format a little and it should be fairly easy: ;; set the format to use the function below (%i is indentation) (setq gnus-topic-line-format "%i[ %u&topic-line; ] %v\n") ;; this function will return some string you can use, here it's just the topic name (defun gnus-user-format-function-topic-line (dummy) name) So you just need to write that function to return some transformation of the actual topic name. Then a topic like x.y.z could be transformed to z or whatever you need. Ted
