Thanks for catching this. Could you please add a comment in
mm-util.el explaining which (X)Emacs don't have
`substring-no-properties' (Emacs 21, XEmacs 21.4, XEmacs 21.5 (?)).
BTW, adding `substring-no-properties' in mml.el fixed Bug#1574.
