FWIW, this would be somewhat useful to me, although I'd like to be able to pick the one mailbox that it IDLEs on. The usefulness of the automatic updating would depend on how smooth it ran. I'd also be very interested to see if this ends up fixing my bug with incoming new mail being marked read without me seeing it :).
