Hi
I know I can hide and close the article window by using standard emacs
buffer management and layout commands - but is there a proper "gnus way"
of closing the article buffer?

I always use the `gnus-summary-expand-window' command, default binds to
the = key.

This is working - thanks.
Although it is only expanding the summary window and not closing the
article window.
Thanks,

Works, but not closing the article buffer.

From the *Summary* buffer? Try hitting "=": gnus-summary-expand-window.
I don't know if it actually closes the article buffer, though...

If by closing you mean deleting the buffer, not just hiding it from
view, then use standard Emacs commands (kill-buffer). There's no need
for a gnus specific command, I would suggest.

Yup - that is what I am doing at the moment, but the "=" is growing on
me. I donm't mind to much the open buffers, was just wondering.
Thanks,
Rainer

The buffer _will_ be closed when you exit the summary, I think...? And
the existing buffer will be reused when displaying a different article
(I also think...?).

Maybe the 'q' key is what you are looking for?

But this one returns to the Groups buffer and closes the Summary buffer
as well. I was looking for something to close the Article buffer and
return to the summary buffer - the = is fine
Cheers,
