Current git of Ma Gnus.
I want to subscribe to a couple of groups on an IMAP server which has
thousands of public groups. My current situation is: only the groups I
care about are in gnus-newsrc-alist. All other groups on the server are
in gnus-killed-list. gnus-check-new-newsgroup is nil, and
gnus-read-active-file is 'some.
Unfortunately, I get bogged down when gnus attempts to do an EXAMINE on
every single group on the server. Some of the groups are causing the
(cyrus) server some problems, and I have let this run for hours without
completion. Any suggestions?

Gnus should only do an EXAMINE on the subscribed groups. What's the
command you use that makes Gnus issue EXAMINE on all the groups?

I'm not certain what happened, but the problem has magically gone away.
If I run into it again, I will re-post about it.
