Something in my setup keeps getting corrupted, I think, but I can't tell
what. When I try to enter gmane.comp.file-systems.zero-install.devel, I
get "Can't select group." I can only enter the group with `C-u RET',
but then I don't see any articles more recent than Aug 02 2011. I can
then hit `/ o' and see some recent articles. Any help most appreciated.

Thanks,

I don't know if this is related but, all of a sudden, I am unable to
enter my nnml groups (filled in from via pop). I had a look at the
active file for the particular server and I thought the entries looked
strange so I moved the file out of the way. Now I cannot even find any
groups for that server...

My gnus is up to date from either this morning or late yesterday (UK time).

Luckily, most of my email is imap and that's all working fine (fingers
crossed ;-).

This is probably fixed now in Ma Gnus. It was due to buggy `unexist'
handling.

Thanks. My nnml folder now works properly!

I'm afraid it isn't fixed yet, or else my Gnus data structures need some
cleaning. I'm still seeing it after an update. Please help.

It's still broken for me after an update from Git and an attempt to wipe
out all information in my .newsrc, etc., that refers to the group.

Any chance that, like me, you are using gnus-sync or something else to
sync marks? That could be pulling the unexist marks back until you
clean them *and* force an overwrite.

Try the following, adapted from `gnus-clean-old-newsrc' to clean
unconditionally and to tell you it's doing so. You may want to adapt it
to just do your problematic NNTP groups.

#+begin_src lisp
;; Remove old `exist' marks from old nnimap groups.
(dolist (info (cdr gnus-newsrc-alist))
(let ((exist (assoc 'unexist (gnus-info-marks info))))
  (when exist
(message "Cleaning unexist marks from group %s" (car info))
    (gnus-info-set-marks
     info (delete exist (gnus-info-marks info))))))
#+end_src

Ted

Eval `(gnus-clean-old-newsrc t)' after updating Ma Gnus.

Thanks, but what does that do, exactly?

I think, BTW, the problem was adaptive scoring. After deleting the
.ADAPT file the group started to behave.

DA> Thanks, but what does that do, exactly?

It cleans the unexist marks unconditionally.
