Not ideal, mind you. Especially not ideal when nnir is set up to do mark propagation, and there's no reason (that I can think of) why nnimap would want to be exempt from that. Ten minutes of edebugging was inconclusive; I'll try to find more time to mess with it. Ideally we could find some sort of solution to the OP's problem as well: it seems like nnir groups are too ephemeral to allow you to update marks from the real backend(s), but not ephemeral enough to be recreated from scratch when the search is run a second time.
