The Gcc thing is something notmuch does automatically, and you can stop it with: (setq notmuch-fcc-dirs nil) I haven't seen any other interference with posting styles, and I require notmuch before setting gnus-posting-styles. Are you composing mails by using "m" in gnus, or "C-x m" elsewhere? I just went and checked, and group-specific posting styles still work for me, when I have point on a group and hit "C-u m"...
