Greetings,

Gnus 5.8.5. While I was writing a news article, network went down.
I tried sending several times, always getting a message that
connection could not be opened. When the network finally came up
and I hit C-c C-c, Gnus said "Denied server". It seems it couldn't
establish connection to the server because `g' in group buffer
didn't do anything (not even that typical small delay if there are
no new news). It somehow managed to send the article, though.
After I restarted Gnus, everything worked just fine.

Here are the messages from those attempts:

"""

What could cause this?

I think you can enter the server buffer (^ from the group buffer),
then close and then open the server in question. This should be
automatic, though.

I think it's deliberately not automatic: when a server is apparently
down, Gnus marks it "denied" until you decide to attempt to reconnect.
Otherwise, you might get seriously bored waiting for the network
timeout for each group. (See the "Unavailable Servers" Info entry.)

I think the canonical command to force reconnecting is
`gnus-server-remove-denials', or R in the Server buffer. It might be
natural to have C-u g in the Group buffer do it as well.
`gnus-group-get-new-news-this-group' (M-g) seems to do it (for the
single group) already.

Right, I did look at it, but what I was wondering is that since it
got the article sent, it obviously got the connection established
somehow (why and how if I'm supposed to reopen it manually?), why
did it still complain to me about denied server (is the article
sending mechanism conflicting with the rest of the system that
relies on manual de-denying of the server?) and why couldn't it
keep it established.
