How does Lars read Ding?
If he reads it on
http://news.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.gnus.general
like some of us, then he will miss out on my hit article
http://mid.gmane.org/87aab1k78j.fsf%40jidanni.org
which is quite a shame.

How should anyone read it on ding, no matter how he reads the latter?
You've posted that message to gmane.linux.debian.devel.emacsen...

And one other group, but the message will only show up in the first
group, unless one has NNTP, which LarDs :) better have, as this is a pretty
big bug... the bigger the bug, the more one wants to crosspost it, but
even one crosspost, and Lar*s will never see it... :(

Oh, I see. Your mail is in my ding box (ding, the mailing list), but it
seems not to be on gmane.emacs.gnus.general. Seems to be a Gmane bug...

With respect to your .newsrc.eld issue: Katsumi already told you how to
fix it. And of course, using a snapshot version can be a bit risky at
times, so you should know what you are doing.

That said, emacs and gnus are usually very stable even in their
development versions. I use the dev versions of both and update them
every two days, and didn't hit your issue.

I think, you should explain the crossposting issue on gmane.discuss.

Uhm:

  $ echo -e "GROUP gmane.emacs.gnus.general\nHEAD 79706\nQUIT" | nc news.gmane.org nntp | egrep '^(Message-ID|Xref):'
  Message-ID: <87aab1k78j.fsf@jidanni.org>
  Xref: news.gmane.org gmane.linux.debian.devel.emacsen:2690 gmane.emacs.gnus.general:79706
  $

  Best regards,

Strange.  Now the mid search

  http://mid.gmane.org/87aab1k78j.fsf%40jidanni.org

shows

  Newsgroups: gmane.linux.debian.devel.emacsen, gmane.emacs.gnus.general

for that article. I was kinda sure it was only the former group
yesterday.  Probably, I'm getting old...

No. It is a bug that {the gmane administrators} refuse to fix.
The bug is: even though
  *  http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.emacsen/2690
  *  http://article.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.gnus.general/79706
both exist, you will always see that article in
  *  http://news.gmane.org/group/gmane.linux.debian.devel.emacsen/
and never in
  *  http://news.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.gnus.general/
because only the first group of a crosspost gets indexed. B U G. BB UU GG.

"But who cares, right, because everything works fine if you read instead
via NNTP, so we'll fix it around year 2038, because nobody reads via the
web interface." is probably the thinking of the executive staff :-(

Uhm, the "executive staff" is Lars, the same generous soul who brings
you Gnus for free. If you could do better, please, go for it!

...so you post on the Gnus mailing list, which has nothing to do with
the bug, with a misleading title? Don't you think that's rude, if not
to Lars, at least to the rest of us?

Well one needs to crosspost to prove the bug exists, right?
And one needs to prove the bug exists to get someone to fix it, right?
And now you agree I have proved the bug, right?
And now it will never get fixed, right?

I agree it's good to prove the bug exists. But you did it in a rude way.

Please ask in a different forum.
