What is "n" bound to? I.e. what does C-h c n tell you? In my case,
it's bound to gnus-summary-next-unread-article.

Thanks for this, didn't see it until just now.

I've just checked and its bound to "n runs the command self-insert-command",
which is obviously why 'n' isn't working like it should. How then do I change
it?

What buffer were you in when you checked? self-insert-command makes
sense for any editing buffer but not for gnus summary or article
buffers.

I think that it was either scratch or message, so I'll try again. "n runs the
command gnus-summary-next-unread-article" from the summary buffer, and "n runs
the command gnus-article-read-summary-keys" from the article buffer, and "n
runs the command gnus-group-next-unread-group" from the group buffer.

Is that right? I can "n" until the last message, and then a double "n" just
closes the buffer but does not progress to the next unread message in some
further group.

When I type 'n' on the last article in a group, I get this question in
the minibuffer:

No more unread articles (Type n for <THE NEXT GROUP WITH UNREAD ARTICLES> [X])

If there are no other groups with unread articles, I get:

No more unread articles (Type n to exit <NAME OF CURRENT GROUP>)

What happens when you press 'n'?

  Best regards,

I get this -
╭────

but no option to proceed to the next unread email/unread group.

But I don't get your message saying -

This is with these versions -

Even when you have other groups with unread articles?

Are these groups located before or after the current group in your
*Group* buffer?

'n' will only jump to the next group, i.e. further down the *Group*
buffer, as far as I can tell.

gnus-auto-select-next is the variable that should control this -- what's
your value of that?

I've set it to 'quietly', closed gnus, restarted emacs, restarted gnus, but
even with this in my 'custom.el'
--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
 '(gnus-auto-select-next (quote quietly))
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---
it still doesn't seem to be working.

It is t in my setup as well, and it (still) works here.
