IMO nnimap.el should just check auth-source-user-or-password and drop the direct call to the netrc parses. Then the user can configure auth-sources appropriately. In general I just suggest dropping the specific protocol in authinfo unless there's a specific need to have it. auth-source-user-or-password will pick the general entry if there's no overriding specific one. That's better than trying to cleverly do "imaps first, then fall back to imap, then maybe pop3, and eventually nntp" as these rules tend to evolve. Ted
