Anyone want to comment on the approach in the patch? I have been using it since I posted it, to no ill effect. I did have "nntp:news.gmane.org" for some groups in my .newsrc.eld, and (nntp "news.gmange.org") for others; changing the former to the latter stopped Gnus complaining about posting to possible unknown groups.
