Trouble with gnus customize

Ciao a tutti,

I have a trouble with the Gnus Customize function ("G c" keys) because I
cannot edit any field in the buffer and I get the error

Text is read-only: Attempt to change text outside editable field

I am using No Gnus v0.4 on  GNU/Linux from debian unstable on a power pc
computer.

Hm...  works for me.  `(setq debug-on-error t)', repeat the bug and
post the resulting backtrace.

        I can reproduce this -- but setting debug-on-error gave no
 backtrace, just the error message, as above.

Try `(setq debug-ignored-errors nil)' as well...

        OK. I don't understand what just happened, so I'll just tell

 1) I read mail I am replying to. I hit M-u to mark ir un read. I hit
    q to quit the nnml group and return to the *Group* buffer.

 4) Hit down arrow twice, till the curso is over a squarer button
    before To-List.
 5) Hit "space" to toggle button.

        Emacs crashed.

 7) emacs -f gnus

 9) down arrow, hit space. A check mark appears. !!!
10) down arrow, enter button, hit space: Same error as above.


        The error happens most of the time, just not every time. Which
 file should I load the .el of to get a better backtrace?

Oh, now I get it too.  It isn't just that SPC isn't the proper command
to hit?  RET works for me on that button.

        Is there some way to get a more informative diagnostic for
 that user error?

I don't think there is an error.  `SPC' has no special binding in
custom buffers (or at least not in that custom buffer), so pressing it
just says that you're trying to edit something that can't be edited.

I get the following error after hit RET key

* call-interactively(newline)

Pressing C-c C-c  does not close the buffer and emacs  does not crash: I
need to close the buffer using C-c k.

This was on a button?  `RET' should be:

RET (translated from <return>) runs the command widget-button-press

when point is on a button.

Yes, this happens  (alwas to me) when  I press RET with the  cursor on a
button.

That must mean that the text properties that set the local keymap on
the buttons don't work.  What does `(text-properties-at (point))' say
for you over a button?

I was wrong -- `RET' isn't just bound on the button in question, but
in the mode map:

`C-h k RET' in the buffer gives me:

RET (translated from <return>) runs the command widget-button-press
   which is an interactive compiled Lisp function in `wid-edit.el'.
It is bound to RET.
(widget-button-press POS &optional EVENT)

Invoke button at POS.

My  little ideas  ended a  lot of  time  ago but  I can  say that  using
emacs-snapshot (from debian) the problem disappeared....
