In Gnus every thing makes sense ;-) Maybe the default value of `message-use-idna' should be 't (Always) instead of 'ask. I guess 'ask was chosen as the default to make it possible to send mail non-ASCII domains, but not send mails with typos in the addresses (since there are only so few domains and MUA's that understand IDN).
