...and here we have the reason why X-Face never got standardized.
Every time someone suggests implementing it, ten people jump and say
it should be replaced with something better.  Which never gets done,
partly because pictures with a couple of bitplanes would be slightly

I don't understand this.  All the implementations I know of are using
the "uncompface" code, either through the external program, or through
the library.  Is that code buggy, or do you claim that the
specification is buggy?
