Yes... Now I just had a look at my .newsrc.eld file. And it turned out that the expire-target for my Inbox was "Inbox-archive". When I changed that into "nnml:Inbox-archive" it worked! I can now expire mails from my Inbox once again. I now understand why Gnus tried to use my primary select method when moving mails to Inbox-archive.
