Hi,
I just noticed that doing
M-x gnus-group-make-nnir-group ...
works just fine in summary buffers, too. At least for me, searching
while I'm already in the summary is a common use-case, so it would make
sense to bind it to some key.
Maybe searching with nnir from inside a summary buffer could even be a
bit more convenient, for example by showing the found messages in the
group's real summary instead of a ephemeral nnir group. I mean, in this
case there's no chance that the results contain messages from more than
one group...

Maybe some kind of limit to matches...? That would have been nice.
