Yes, I meant to say that there's no real way for gnus to know whether
I'm writing in english or in french for a particular message. It's a
minor point.

Also, some SMTP servers (e.g. smtp.gmail.com) add a (no subject) by
themselves.

"are you sure? y/n" looks fine to me. Presumably, hitting C-c C-c with
no subject is either a mistake, in which case the user answers "n", gnus
jumps point to the Subject line, and the user edits it, or it's a
deliberate omission, in which case the user can answer "y". It's
bikeshedding anyway.
