Or in some other files or > directory used by Gnus? One further datapoint: I was running gnus-slave in an "emacs -nw" process, from an ssh window in an xterm earlier yesterday. I didn't terminate the process, and it was still running today. In this process nnimap works. Maybe the ~/.newsrc.eld has been messed up when integrating the gnus-slave file(s)?
