That did indeed happen. All tick marks made by me since Thursday, lost.

That did not happen. But this time I answered "n" to all requests for
adding topics or groups. I think the last time I answered "y" to them
(just to get them out of the way).
So... I can either restore the .newsrc.eld with the right tick marks, or
re-read them now that I can save them.
Going for the latter, I think.
