Dear Gnus Developers,

Gnus/5.130000 Emacs/23.0.50 (20071101) Fedora 8 (gnu/linux)

Every now and then I receive emails with vcard attachment. Gnus simply
just doesn't display them. Is vcard discouraged in exchange of contacts?

I tried to attach a buffer with vcard data, however Gnus failed to
recognize the type as "text/x-vcard", is this a bug?

[I have attached a vcard in this post]

Go and get vcard.el from
http://www.splode.com/users/friedman/software/emacs-lisp/ -
once you load it, Gnus should magically display your vcard.

So you did. Here's what I see, after loading vcard.el and doing a M-g on
the article:

Enjoy,
Cos (who can't believe it was 9 years ago that he wrote that tm-vcard
 hack. how time flies!)

vcard.el is loaded in my ~/.emacs. However I am using the vcard.el from
Jemarch the author of addressbook.el.

http://es.gnu.org/~jemarch/downloads/addressbook/vcard.el

I am still seeing nothing for vCard attachment.

Indeed and Gnus remains as my only mailer. I hope it can cope with new
technology and standards.

In gnus/contrib is the right vcard.el. So there's no need to fetch it
somewhere else.

Bye,
Tassilo

Ah. Apologies (it's been a while - i'm just getting back into Gnus - 4
years using a Mac and I've been feeling spiriturally bereft. Thankfully,
most of my old Gnus config still works :).

Anyway, I'd suggest you try the older version, Leo. When I load the
newer one you mention, all I see is a nice little empty box:

You might want to ask the addressbook.el maintainer - Jose E. Marchesi -
if he can provide some further wisdom on this? (I'll see if I can have a
look at why the new vcard.el's not behaving, but I might not have time
until the weekend.)

vcards are way old, man. Aren't all the cool kids playing with
microformats (eg. hcard) now?

cheers,
 cos.

I tried the old version. Indeed it works. However it is displayed as:

    --
    Richard Stallman <(type=internet rms@gnu.org)>
    FSF

How to make it displayed inside a box?

Best,

That appears to be a feature of the vcard.el at
http://www.splode.com/users/friedman/software/emacs-lisp/

I notice Tassilo just posted a patch, here, to add boxing to the one in
gnus/contrib.

Cheers,
 Cos

This version from Noah's homepage is included in No Gnus now.

Bye,
Tassilo
