Fixed now.

If you flip it to nil, it'll stop the next time you enter a group, but,
yes, changing the number doesn't do much.  Perhaps the timer should just
be restarted upon each group entry.  I've now done this.

Having it updated often is a good way to have any bugs (and there have
been a lot) resulting from the update be tickled more often, so that
it's possible to reproduce and fix.

Once all the problems have been ironed out, we can consider lowering the
update rate.
