Looking at gnus-request-replace-article, I don't see a problem if the
function returns nil.  So, if nnimap-request-replace-article returns nil
and (as a side effect) deletes the old article and creates the new one,
that should do what the user expects.  It's not ideal but I think it's
better than a new special gnus-request-replace-by-appending-article
function or a new flag for gnus-request-replace-article.

All of this is untested, so please tell me if I'm speaking nonsense.
